Top 5 nightspots in Tashkent

Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan, is emerging as one of the most popular holiday destinations. Once considered as a paradise for the monument-and-mosque hunters, the city has now draped itself with different hues of glamour and is also boasting of a stupendous nightlife. When you hop over to Tashkent, you can do your full quota of sightseeing at the daytime visiting corners that house some famous historic attractions and religious landmarks. But when the sun goes down and the stars spring out, the city changes gears dramatically and it turns into a racy, illuminated and edgy town where tourists can dig into all those sinful pleasures of life.

Music, dance and bars are really mushrooming at a fast rate in the city. Here are some of the most famous nightspots which you should check out. Even if you are not much of a nocturnal birdie, Tashkent will provoke you to alter your habits for a while:

Sky Bar

i. Neo or Sky Night club: This is one of the most popular clubs in the town. And the reason is quite obvious. Apart from being old and recognized, it is very conveniently located at the Le Grande Plaza Hotel. So, it can be accessed without any hassle. Besides, it provides various forms of revelries apart from the conventional song & dance routine. The music is an eclectic mix comprising of European, American as well as local Russian tracks. It is needless to say that the ambience and the settings have that classy vintage touch.

iii. The Great Game Sports Café: If you are a gaming buff, then make sure to walk into this popular venue after sunset and you are going to spend hours and hours over the tech tools. If the place sounds a bit like a kid’s place, then you are getting deluded by its name. It is basically a bar cum game café, where you can sip into drinks and enjoy some games at the same time. So, if you are looking for some really action packed adventure, then this place will really live up to your expectations.

Weekly Photo Challenge & Travel Theme: Split-Second Story in the Big City

Wind Against Current

By Vladimir Brezina

This week’s Photo Challenge is Split-Second Story, and Ailsa’s travel-themed photo challenge is Cities.

A perfect conjunction!

For yesterday and today were days of Manhattanhenge, that urban astronomical phenomenon in which the sun appears, for a brief moment just at sunset, at the ends of the cross-streets of Manhattan’s street grid.

Of course, the sun has to be visible at sunset. Yesterday was cloudy. Today was more promising. So I joined the Manhattanhenge-watching crowd—smaller than usual this year because of the uncertain weather—at 57th Street and Park Avenue. As we waited, a rain shower moved in. (Now I know how astronomers must feel, waiting nervously for that once-in-a-century conjunction or eclipse, only to have clouds move in at the last minute…)

But just at the moment of sunset, the sun appeared through the mist!  I got a few photos.

India-Bangkok highway to start soon

Thailand packages under air-flights may soon be history! A highway connecting India and Bangkok is about to get constructed and this could well be a start of an extremely healthy relationship between the two destinations as far as tourism is considered.

It may sound a little unconvincing since Bangkok is not exactly the next-door neighbor of India. But the plans have already been chalked out and they do not appear impossible. A highway beginning from India’s Assam and running all the way through the country of Myanmar till Bangkok is now on the cards. This means, that you will be able to drive all the way from your home town to the city known best for its exotic malls, iconic floating markets and the pious Buddhist temples.

India Bangkok Highway

Bangkok has always been a firm favorite with the Indian honeymooners. The flight tickets to the city are very cheap, considering that they are international flights. A two-way journey usually costs somewhere around 14k though you can enjoy further discounts if you latch on to some cool Thailand packages. The current lot of friends, families and honeymooners are seeing Bangkok as a highly attractive, wholesome and pocket-friendly foreign destination.

So, the big honchos from the tourism departments from both the countries have joined hands to cement a beautiful road which will connect Assam and Bangkok. Myanmar which lies in between has also agreed to invest in the venture. It also means that Myanmar may soon get to enjoy a higher tourist count from the Indian cities.

As per the proposed plan, the highway shall be ready by late 2015 or early 2016. So, you just need to wait for 2-3 years before you can enjoy that quintessential ‘long’ drive all the way to the capital of Thailand.

The only glitch in the plan may be the heavy fuel costs which you may have to bear. The rate at which petrol prices in our country is going up, the road trip from India to Bangkok may leave you empty by a huge sum. On the upside, you may just experience the greatest road trip of your life.

The icing on the cake will be the fact that the road trip will enable you to check out a bit of Myanmar since you will need to wade through its belly in order to reach Bangkok.

The project has just been proposed and we do expect a lot of craters ahead. It may still be a dream, though not a distant one as of now. For the time being, you can just check out the delights of Pattaya, Phuket, Krabi and even Bangkok with the flight-inclusive Thailand honeymoon packages.

Romantic Spots For Short Trips Around Mumbai

Known for its beautiful coastline, the world-famous Marine Drive and its glamour, Mumbai is a city that allures lots of people. While the luxurious cosmopolitan with its dazzling shopping malls, markets, restaurants and modern real estate properties, proves the point that it is the commercial capital of the country, some places around the city offer great time for people who look for scopes to go out on short romantic trips. Scenic beauty and absolute serenity that prevails in these spots ensure great romantic time for people, especially newly married couples and conjugal pairs wanting a break to come closer to each other in a renewed attempt.

khandala

khandala

Two top places to visit in Mumbai for couples are Khandala and Lonavla. Both are popular shooting spots for Bollywood movies and are known across the country for their breathtaking scenic beauty. Situated at a distance of 96 kilometers from Mumbai, Lonavla is a beautiful hill station. The biggest attraction of Lonavla is the chikki, but apart from that there are a lot to enjoy in this serene spot. Lonavla gets dressed up to showcase its natural beauty during the monsoon after splashes of rain makes the lush greenery of this countryside spot look greener. The waterfalls and ponds appear livelier and the atmosphere turns absolutely romantic. Lying adjancent to Lonavla, Khandala is another town hill. For their closeness and identical scenic surroundings, Khandala and Lonavla are actually referred to as twin hill stations. Scenic beauty of Khandala is even more than Lonavla, since you can enjoy a bird’s eye view of the green valley lying underneath from the top of a mountain. There are several interesting spots in the area that you can visit, such as Rajmachi Point, Valvan Dam, Lonavla Lake, Duke’s Nose, Ryewood Park, Karla Caves, Tiger’s Leap, Bushy Dam and Lohagad Fort. Since the distance is less than 100 kilometers, one can get back to Mumbai after a day-long trip to Khandala and Lonavla.

Alibaug is another great places to make a romantic short trip from Mumbai. Known for its number of stunning beaches, Alibaug is a great place to get rid of the hustle and bustle of the cosmopolitan. Situated along the sandy beach is the Kolaba Fort, one of the prime attractions around Mumbai. Two other interesting spots to visit in the area are the Kanakeshwar Temple and the Murad-Janjira Fort. You may also head for Karshet which is located along the Alibaug beach. Karshet is quieter than Alibaug and is an ideal vacation spot. Don’t resist yourself from trying the local food items. Yes they are a bit oily but are simply mouthwatering.

Mahabaleshwar (1)

For adventure lovers, Matheran is one of the best places to visit in Mumbai in one day. Matheran too is a hill station and it allures trekkers with its rough and steep terrains. Vehicles are not allowed within the town limits of Matheran and hence the spot is pollution free. To make your trip even more charming and romantic, opt for the mini train ride around the hill and enjoy the stunning scenic beauty of the surroundings. Located a driving distance of an hour from Mumbai, Nasik is another very romantic spot to make a trip. The USP of Nasik is its vineyards that apart from a scope to explore the plantation areas, offers a tasting session. Take sips of different varieties of local wines and explore places in the surroundings like Gangapur Dam and Pandave Caves.

7 Things to do in Maldives when on your Honeymoon

At Maldives, you can make several tapestries of love. After a run down on your wedding aisle, this destination is probably the best thing you can give to your newly wedded. Maldives honeymoon packages and international tour packages run deals and discounts almost round the year. So, even the middle-class citizens are now immortalizing their honeymoon by heading to these islands.

Here are the 7 wonderful, and rather dreamy, things to do during a Maldives honeymoon:

Make love under the ocean

love under the ocean

We are not kidding and this is no exaggerated statement. Ithaa Underwater Restaurant is a must-visit place for an underwater lunch. But spill some money and you can book it for your wedding night. Make love amongst eels and sharks and wake up to a lavish breakfast.

Go diving

Maldives Diving

If Ithaa seems out of bounds for you, at least try exploring the underwater secrets through diving. Scuba diving requires courage but snorkeling is easy. There are various levels/depths for diving. So, no experience is warranted for a peep below the surface.

Surfing through islands

wind surfing

Instead of staying put at one place, it is suggested that you surf through different islands. Maldives is a bunch of many islands. Try setting foot on as many as you can. It may be tiring for some but rejuvenating for many.

Love in the times of war

Visit-tombs

Excuse us for this cheesy sub-header but it seemed the most appropriate way of describing what we are about to describe. Maldives has good historical landmarks and attractions. Romance with history, walk hand-in-hand to palaces which house artifacts from World War, and definitely visit the tombs.

Sunset fishing

Night-Fishing

Sunsets are awesome here. You can double the awesome quotient by going fishing. A good catch will also save you your dinner expenses.

Going on a submarine

A few Maldives packages include a submarine ride which is a dreamy way of going under the sea and taking a secure look at underwater things.

Spa it up

Of course, when you are on a honeymoon and in the mood to romance, better pamper your body first at one of the top resort spas.

5 Top Adventure Sports in Phuket

Though Thailand packages have Bangkok, Krabi and the sizzling Pattaya to offer to the first-timers, it is Phuket which is your go-to destination if you are full-on into adventure sports. The combo of scenic beauty and cultural vivacity is lethal. It can disarm any tourist, even if he is on a repeat visit.

More about the natural beauty later! This article is aimed at your adrenalins as we try zipping through a quick list of the city’s top adventure sports. So, here we get set go!

Bungee Jumping: Phuket has two interesting sites for bungee jumping. One is the Jungle Bungee Jump which at 50 m is the better option for a first-timer. It is just hypnotizing to have a free fall amidst the green canopy of trees and waters. For someone who is looking for a more daring jump, the World Bungee Jump at around 60 m is the ideal one.

Trekking: Trekking may not appear as extreme as bungee jumping, but it is a winner at any given day. We cannot controvert the charm which this old-age sport offers. Phuket has some lovely hills and a hike over these moors is the best thing you can give to your eyes.

Biking: If hiking looks painful to your lazy legs, you can rent a bike and go biking. Biking is amongst the top things to do in Phuket for solo travelers who wish to explore sceneries at their own leisure.

Go Karting: Go Karting may not enthuse a nature lover but it is fun of another dimension. It is recommended for those who are traveling with kids. Our experience tells us that this sport goes very well with the young ones.

Elephant trekking: Elephant trekking allows you to have a peek into the wildlife and at the same time also experience a ride on the back of the hugest animal alive. Elephant treks can be a bit expensive especially if you want to enjoy a long ride, but it will be worth every penny you pay. One tip we would suggest- try to enhance the experience by feeding something to the tusker and getting a pic clicked. Unless the elephant owner is really grumpy, he will not begrudge this extra intimacy with his pet.

Camping Trips from Mumbai

Sometimes, it surprises me when people babble about foreign destinations and look at Alps with a sigh as if our country has nothing else to offer other than the slums and overcrowded buses. The truth is that there are some enthralling places which are at a kissing distance from Mumbai. All you have to do is just tie up your rucksacks, pack your laces (okay, you can do it the other way round) and get going. There are excellent places to visit in Mumbai itself and it is remarkable that there are some offbeat destinations which despite being so serene are virtually unknown.

1

Take for instance, this hilly region called Jawhar. It is a destination I had to nearly drag out by the scruff of its neck from the pages of geography, as if it didn’t want to get exposed in the first place. Being shy and preferring to stay away from the limelight, Jawhar makes for an excellent camping destination. Pleasant daytime weather and bountiful of nature do make this place something of an unpopular enigma. Some vantage points add that irresistibility factor to it and what you get is a place which will save you those foreign trip expenses.

Camping

Then there is the Raigarh Fort. It is not completely unknown but people hardly walk over to this side, unless they are compulsive travelers or photographers. I personally feel that this forgotten place is a top combo of history and nature. The fort has scripted a fine testimonial of the valor of the Marathas on one hand, and the overgrowth of untamed weeds is a timely reminder of the infallibility of nature. Setting up a camp at this place and then going for long hikes or treks can be simply fascinating.

A little away from Mumbai lies Durshet which is another natural attraction where there are copious numbers of butterflies and bees. The canopy of green is benumbing and the occasional presence of streams whets a traveler’s appetite.

All inclusive honeymoon packages in India bring you a lot of similar places, in or around Mumbai. They also make for preferred weekend getaways and are great places to put up the camp.

Eco tourism in Goa

Those who buy Goa tour packages usually do so for the temptation of the Arabian Sea and the several beaches which the state houses. But the sanctuaries, parks and waterfalls of Goa are equally enthralling and sadly heavily underrated. In recent years, owing to increased awareness through internet, eco-tourism industry in the state has received a strong boost. Many of our readers are taken by deep surprise when we tell them that Goa, despite being one of the smallest states in the country, harbors 4-5 sanctuaries.

SmallSunbirdMale

Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary is the most popular sanctuary in the state. It is a huge expanse of jungle and has a major share of the state’s birds and animals. Though, it is not difficult to reach, there are many who say that this sanctuary is not worth a visit owing to its denseness. If you revel in a forestry ambiance, this place will be a paradise to you. But if you are expecting a tiger or a tusker to pop out from the bush every few seconds, you are looking at the wrong place.

Bondla Sanctuary

Bondla Sanctuary

To get an eyeful of animals, the smaller reserve called Bondla Sanctuary is a better alternative. Here, you can gaze, marvel and click at scores of animals. But Bondla is more like a zoo and you may not get the satisfaction of animal-watching in the wild which you get at a natural sanctuary like Bhagwan Mahavir.

Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary

In the south of Goa is the Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary. It is quite humongous in area, second only to Bhagwan Mahavir. There is an abundance of reptiles in this corner though you will have to negotiate the denseness of foliage to reach out to them. Cotigao can make for a perfect day retreat to those who have put up in the southern part of Goa. The best way to reach it is through a cab or a hired car.

Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary

For the bird-lovers, there is the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary. Bird-watching is often counted amongst the top things to do in Goa. So, a trip down to this place should definitely feature in your scheme of things if you are a self-proclaimed bird-lover or have a Nikon camera dangling across your neck.
